I’m a filmmaker, journalist and director/owner of Backyard Films & Video, based in Sydney, Australia.
A graduate of Canberra University, completing a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing (Journalism), I have spent a great deal of my working life in newspaper and magazine journalism, working in Canberra, London, Melbourne and Sydney. See my Linked in profile for more detail.
For 18 years I was employed by The Australian newspaper in various roles, including Assistant Foreign News Editor for several years. In 2007 I moved to The Australian’s website to become its first video journalist, establishing a video department able to shoot its own content and figuring out what exactly that content should be.
I now have my own video production business, Backyard Films & Video, specialising in creative, corporate and web video. You’ll find a good selection of Backyard videos on my website. However, a lot of the work I did from 2014-2016 was in-house corporate video for American Express and Medicare Local, which can only appear on their private video channels.
In 2016, I finished post-production on a documentary on albinism in Fiji. ‘Coming out of the Shadows’ has screened on Fiji TV, to a great reception, and will be shown at film festivals in Australia this year. The BBC wrote a story about the film.
Alongside my film and video work, I do freelance writing and proofreading.
